05. 10 Weeks, 10 Devs, 1 GDC Demo

It’s been a minute since our last update!

Coming into March, we were heads down getting ready for GDC here in the Garage: honing our pitch, setting up meetings, painting new art, and most importantly, building a prototype. This indie band has been firing on all cylinders! Iterating daily, and making smart and pragmatic decisions with some big creative wind in our sails. We landed in San Francisco with a stronger prototype and vision for our next game than we could have imagined at the start of the year.

It always feels strange to compress weeks of work, sweat, and ideas down into a 10-minute presentation. But you gotta boil it all the way down and figure out how to convey your key concepts quickly. With a little help from our friends, we got all our big ideas distilled into a really tight pitch flow. A quick intro of the studio, a few minutes to set the stage for this audacious new world we’re building, and then right into a demo of our gameplay prototype.

Back in January, we said what we were hearing from publishers came down to, “come see us after you’ve found the fun and then we’ll take a look.” Well, since then… we’ve found the fun, and they’re taking a look! We met with a whole bunch of potential partners at GDC, and got some fantastic reactions to both the world we’re crafting and the prototype we’ve built. A couple ideas in particular really got eyes lighting up and folks nodding along with enthusiasm. Now, we keep talking and see where that energy leads.

(As much as we’d love to introduce the game itself here, we can’t yet—but when there’s more news to share you’ll be among the first to know.)

It’s still a tough year out there in the games industry, and it feels like there’s an extra layer of caution across the board. But in spite of all that, we came back from GDC feeling very encouraged and energized to dive back into making this game! We’re all proud of what we’ve accomplished so far this year, and we’re glad to be making something new and ambitious together as a team.
